Teen killed in Knockcroghery collision

Gardai are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the Athlone to Roscommon road (N61 ) shortly after midnight, outside Knockcroghery on Thursday, July 15.

A car and a lorry were involved in the collision and a passenger in the car, a 19-year-old man, was fatally injured. The dead man is believed to have been a Brazilian national and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man, a passenger in the car, was removed to hospital with what are described as serious injuries and two women in the car received minor injuries. The occupants of the car were all in their late teens or early twenties.

The driver of the truck, a man in his 60s, was also treated in hospital for minor injuries.

All were taken

to Roscommon County Hospital for treatment.

The N61 between Knockcroghery and Roscommon was closed for a number of hours to facilitate the examination of the crash site by Garda forensic collision investigators, and was re-opened later that morning.
