Two of the gang arrested in Kinnegad on June 4 following a high speed chase after an alleged armed raid of a Baylough bookies, were formally charged with the offence this week (July 14 ).
Yu Hui (28 ) from China and Yeoh Chung Lam (24 ) from Malaysia were both given copies of their charge and neither made any reply, Detective Garda Niall Cogavin told the court.
“The DPP [Director of Public Prosecutions] seeks trial on indictment,” the detective told Judge Aeneas McCarthy. This means the two accused are to face a jury trial at circuit court level and this would be arranged as soon as the book of evidence is finalised.
Detective Cogavin told the court he was confident this would be within a week, and Judge McCarthy remanded the two in custody to Cloverhill District Court on July 21 to facilitate this.
A third accused, Li Guan (24 ), also from China, is being represented separately by a Bray, Co Wicklow firm, and made a separate bail application in Cloverhill on June 30.
