Cuts in disability services would affect so many – McFadden

Speaking as protesters marched to the Dáil this week to demonstrate against cuts to services for people with intellectual and physical disabilities, Fine Gael Longford/Westmeath Senator Nicky McFadden has branded the Government’s actions as shameful and said it was incomprehensible that they would target the most vulnerable in our society.

“It is shameful that the Government would cut the vital services that people with intellectual disabilities depend on. It is sickening that this Government continues to spend so much money trying to stabilise the zombie Anglo Irish Bank, got its projected figures for NAMA profits so wrong, and now, instead of holding the bankers to account, targets the most vulnerable for cuts.

“It is incomprehensible that any Government would do this. I hope that the people of Longford and Westmeath come out and protest loudly and strongly because there are many people locally that have come to me about this. I am incensed for them because it is fundamentally unfair to cut the disability services that so many people depend on.”
