Moate welcomes new festival

Moate welcomes its first Festival of Flowers next weekend from Friday July 9 to Sunday July 11 in St Mary’s Church. The festival will consist of 35 stunning floral designs reflecting life in Moate, past and present. All proceeds will be divided between St Vincent de Paul and the Hall Restoration Fund.

Richard Haslam, of Birr, Co Offaly will be designing all the floral pieces for the show. Richard is a freelance florist, designer, and consultant.

The festival will commence on Thursday night, July 8, with an art exhibition by local artists, in the Old School House on Station Road. Then offical opening of the festival will take place on Friday night, July 9 with a preview of the flowers and a concert in St Mary’s Church. Tickets for Friday night are priced at €20. This is a ticket only event as seating in the church is limited.

On Saturday and Sunday viewing of the flower displays in the church will take place from 10am to 7pm, with admission €10. There will also be a floral demonstration by Richard Haslam in Tuar Ard Theatre on both Saturday and Sunday at 3pm. Tickets for this are priced at €10.

The festival will then close on Sunday night, July 11 with Songs of Praise by the gospel choir in the church at 8pm.

Other events are planned for the town during the festival including craft stalls, farmers market, food demonstrations, art exhibitions, and a plant sale which will take place in the Old School House.
