A career in counselling and psychotherapy

Castlebar Counselling & Therapy Centre is currently offering a number of courses for those who would like to explore a new profession in the coming year.

A one-year foundation course in counselling/psychotherapy will be run on Tuesday evenings from October next, and a four year part - time professional Diploma in counselling and psychotherapy will commence in January 2011. The latter is fully accredited by the Humanistic Branch of the Irish Council for Psychotherapy and has been running in Castlebar since 2003.

Its graduates work in private practice throughout the west, as well as in the National Counselling Service and for a variety of voluntary organisations, providing much-needed support for vulnerable people in the community, helping them to meet life’s problems in a creative and self-reliant way.

The centre, which is a registered charity, also offers low-cost counselling for clients and provides a safe and caring therapeutic environment for those in need.

Those who are interested in pursuing a new career in counselling/psychotherapy, but are unsure of the commitment involved, will find that the foundation course offers the opportunity to learn valuable counselling skills as well as providing a comprehensive introduction to fundamental theories and practice of counselling/psychotherapy.

The four-year part-time diploma course is designed to support the professional and personal development of the therapist throughout their training and to prepare them to work with a wide variety of client groups and issues.
