A father, mother, and son, all pleading not guilty to their part in an alleged slash hook and samurai sword attack on a woman last year, were returned for trial to the Circuit Court at a hearing in Athlone District Court this week (June 9 ).
Books of evidence were handed over to Larry (40 ), Angela (39 ), and Thomas (18 ) Power of Alverno Drive, Willow Park and they were remanded on continuing bail to appear for jury trial at Mullingar Circuit Court, sitting in Tullamore, on July 13.
The court heard from Inspector Jarlath Folan how the charges before the accused related to an alleged incident in the afternoon of June 5, 2009 after gardai were called to a “serious disturbance” in Thornbury Drive, Willow Park during which a 34-year-old woman was hospitalised with facial injuries and a broken arm.
All three Powers are charged with a breach of Section 15 (violent disorder ) of the Public Order Act, and both parents were remanded back to Athlone District Court for September 8 on other matters.
Judge Patrick Clyne warned all three that if they intended to use an alibi at their trial, they each had two weeks in which to provide evidence of it to the authorities.
Another three people, not before the court on Tuesday, have also been charged in relation to this alleged incident.
