Bards back in Roscommon with a brand new show

The legendary Diarmuid O’Leary & The Bards continue their 2010 tour, in The Abbey Hotel, Roscommon on Saturday July 3.

While they are probably best known for their comedy hits such as ‘Julia at Lanigans Ball’, ‘The Oldest Swinger in Town’, ‘How’s She Cuttin’!’, etc, an equally strong facet of the group is their ability to render a wide range of more serious and contemporary material such as ‘Shaney Boy’ and ‘The Old Dungarvan Oak’, together with invigorating arrangements of traditional Irish music. Audiences are in for a real treat in July as the folk band perform tracks from the recently released album The Railway Hotel. From the romantic and poignant ‘If I go Sailing’ to the jovial ‘It’s Later Than You Think’, humour and soulfulness blend together creating the perfect mix for a flawless evening out.

Standing out on the album is the title track, ‘The Railway Hotel’, the tale of two lovers and their humble beginnings, while the haunting and evocative ‘The Last Blue Whale in the Ocean’, about the hunting of the great blue whale into extinction, will remain in the listener’s consciousness long after it has played. Audiences can look forward to a live rendition of this on tour.

‘A Soft Place to Fall’ is a tenderly performed song while ‘The Way Old Friends Do’ is the perfect track to endear listeners to the classic folk group who are celebrating 30 years in the music industry this year. As well as the earlier hits, their two-hour live show will include many of the eccentric, tongue-in-cheek songs from their Comedy Hits Album like ‘Late Starters in Love’, ‘If I was a Dog’, ‘Mother Tongue’, etc.

If you have an opportunity to see and hear Diarmuid O’Leary & The Bards, you will certainly enjoy their blend of music, song, and humour and come away filled with the enthusiasm which they generate everywhere they play.

You can catch them live in concert, singing all their hit songs at the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon on Saturday July 3. Tickets at €20 are available at the hotel. Tel (090 ) 6626240.
