From humble beginnings in 1996, the Military Vehicle Club of Ireland (MVCI ) has grown to become one of the largest clubs in Ireland. To date, the club has approximately 80 members, most of whom have one or more vehicles in their collection.
The club was officially formed in 1996 when 13 members of the public and Defences Forces personnel came together to discuss their mutual interest of preserving and maintaining vintage military vehicles and equipment. Today the club has members from all over Ireland, as well as some overseas and international members.
The group is affiliated to the Irish Vintage Society as well as the Military Vehicle Trust in the UK.
2010 marks the sixthyear the club has held its public military show and this year promises to be the biggest and best yet. In addition to the MVCI there will also be representatives from the Irish Military Vehicle Group, Battlegroup South, Ulster Military Vehicle Club, Irish Lebanon Vets, the Irish Defence Forces, the Reserves, the Gardai, as well as re-enactors covering all eras, from Romans and Vikings to American Civil War and WWII.
The military show takes place in the Curragh racecourse, Kildare on Sunday May 16 from 10am to 6pm. The show is open to all ages, with a play area for the kids and all vehicles are stationary for the duration of the show.
