Gardai foil Ballinasloe robbers

Three men who attempted to make off with a substantial amount of cash after robbing a Ballinasloe shop had their efforts thwarted by gardai in Athlone.

On Thursday afternoon last week, three men entered Concannon’s convenience store in Ballinasloe, making their way to the back office from where they stole a substantial sum of cash and then made their escape by car.

A short time later, gardai in Athlone apprehended a vehicle in the Baylough area of the town. When they tried to stop it, the car took off at speed, coming to a stop when it crashed into a pier on the Roscommon Road. The occupants ran and were chased on foot and caught by gardai.

Three men, all non-nationals with addresses in the Dublin area, were arrested and charged, and all the stolen money was recovered.
