The annual Féile Ceoil na Scoileanna will take place in the Dean Crowe theatre Athlone next week.
The festival which is now in its 45th year, opens on Monday April 19 at 7pm and ends on the following Thursday April 22, including a matinée on Wednesday morning commencing at 10.30am.
This year the Féile will be officially opened on Monday evening by Eddie Bracken, a former school inspector.
Pupils from primary schools all over the Midlands and the West of Ireland will be participating, with a total of 33 items, spanning four nights, and one matinée. The festival which is non-competitive, acts as a showcase displaying the varied talents of our school children. Entertainment will include singing, choirs, instrumental music, drama, verse speaking, pageants, mime, dance, etc.
The aim of the Féile is to promote Irish music and culture, as well as providing enjoyment for the thousands of boys and girls who take part each year. It provides a wonderful opportunity for children to express their creative talents in front of an audience. A great few evenings’ entertainment is guaranteed and all are welcome.
