A man in his 20s has been questioned over a stabbing incident in a house in Ballykeeran village, outside Athlone, on Tuesday this week.
Gardai were alerted to the incident at approximately 7am on Tuesday. On arrival at the scene they found a man with a number of stab wounds. The man, who is local and in his 20s, was brought to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, where his injuries were described as not being life-threatening.
The scene was preserved while gardai carried out a technical examination.
Another local man, also in his 20s, was arrested in Ballykeeran in connection with the incident and brought to Athlone Garda Station for questioning.
He was released without charge on Tuesday evening and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
