In the latest twist in the saga of troubled fashion company Bestseller Retail, the Vero Moda store in Golden Island shopping centre closed its doors this week.
The company behind fashion chain Vero Moda cited “continued adverse trading conditions” as the reason for the closure of 11 of its stores across the country, including the Golden Island outlet, with the loss of 21 full-time and 37 part-time staff.
The news comes just over a week after the Vero Moda and Jack & Jones stores in Athlone Towncentre reopened for trading, pending the outcome of negotiations on rents. The Athlone Towncentre stores were among 14 stores under the Bestseller Retail brand which were shut early in March.
Announcing the news this week, Bestseller Retail said “the combined pressures of continued negative trading conditions and the high cost of renting premises” had forced it close another 11 of its stores in Ireland.
The company went into interim examinership in early March, after it built up liabilities that exceeded its assets by €4.1 million.
Out of its original 36 stores in the Republic, just 14 stores now remain open.
