River Village Athlone to undergo major clean-up

Volunteers urged to join in National Spring Clean event on Saturday April 10

Members of the local River Village Residents Association have come together to organise a major clean-up as part of An Taisce’s National Spring Clean, Ireland’s largest anti-litter initiative. The group is coming together at 12.30pm on Saturday April 10 to begin a massive litter removal operation in order to clean up the area. Volunteers from the area are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand.

The National Spring Clean campaign runs throughout the month of April. There is still time to register your event and receive a free clean-up kit and An Taisce is urging the people of Limerick to sign up and make a difference this spring.

The group, made up of local residents, has arranged to meet at the pond area within River Village at 12.30pm Saturday morning and aims to divide up to clean the entire area. This is the first time the local people have taken part in the National Spring Clean and it is hoped it will become an annual event in order to tackle the growing issue of litter in the River Village area. For further information on the clean-up contact Edwina Reilly on (086 ) 8583947 or email [email protected].

All those registering for the National Spring Clean campaign are issued with a free clean up kit which contains information, posters, colour coded refuse sacks for segregation of waste materials, protective gloves and tabards to keep participants clean. An Taisce will also liaise with local authorities to ensure that all materials collected will be picked up without charge.
