Two lives lost on Westmeath roads

It was a bad weekend on Westmeath roads as two people lost their lives in separate incidents last weekend.

A 26-year-old man died in a single vehicle collision outside Mullingar on Sunday morning, March 7. The incident occurred between 6am and 7.15am, when the man’s car collided with a wall at Cloghan, on the N52 between Mullingar and Delvin.

The man was seriously injured and was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar, where he later died.

Gardai are also investigating the death of an elderly pedestrian after he was struck by a car in Athlone last Saturday morning, March 6.

The man was walking in the Monksland area of the M6 near Athlone when he was struck by a car at approximately 6am. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both scenes were sealed off temporarily for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
