Athlone Chamber is co-ordinating an Athlone Energy Awareness Day on Friday March 26. The information day is being organised in association with a wide range of organisations and is part of the wider European Sustainable Energy Week 2010. On Friday March 26 Athlone Town Centre, The Civic Offices, Athlone Library, and the Prince of Wales Hotel will host a series of seminars, exhibitions, and information stands.
These include local and national environmental agencies providing information to businesses and the general public in relation to their services. This information will include services provided by Sustainable Energy Ireland, the Midland Energy Centre, the Environmental Protection Agency, and other such organisations.
Secondary schools in Athlone will exhibit their Young Scientists projects in Athlone Library. Businesses promoting energy efficient products will provide information on their products at stands in the Athlone Town Centre and the Prince of Wales Hotel.
A series of short lunchtime (12.30pm to 2.10pm ) seminars, geared for both homes and businesses, on topics of interest, such as wind, solar and bio-energy will be held at the Prince of Wales Hotel. These presentations will be made by professionals in the area of energy awareness and the environment. Specialist product suppliers will also present at these seminars
“The chamber believe that there are significant energy savings to be made for businesses and homes,” said John McGrath, chairman of the Enterprise Committee. “And we hope this Energy Awareness Day will provide people with the information they require all in one location. People need impartial advice about all the new sources of energy if they are to make the investment. We encourage all those interested in the subject,” outlined Mr. McGrath. ”To come along to our short lunchtime seminar series and visit the information stands and look at the very interesting projects developed by our young scientists in Athlone Library.”
