Athlone pharmacy raises €2,000 for Haiti

An Athlone pharmacy has raised some €2,000 in donations as part of a campaign to deliver medical supplies to earthquake-stricken Haiti.

The money raised in recent weeks by McGorisks pharmacies at Athlone Towncentre, The Crescent, and John Broderick Street is to go directly towards the cost of flying medical and surgical supplies from the US to a team of doctors in Haiti.

The initiative is the branchild of Galway-based pharmacist Shane Howard, whose uncle, Fr Vincent Kelly, is parish priest in St John the Baptist Parish, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Fr Kelly is leading an effort to fly medical supplies and doctors directly into Haiti, just an hour and a half’s flight away, on a bi-weekly basis.

All money donated at McGorisks is being used to buy medical supplies which will be delivered to Haiti within days, with no administration or travel costs incurred.

McGorisks pharmacy would like to thank all their customers who donated to this vitally important cause. The fundraiser was a great success and €2,000 was raised in donations.

If you missed your chance the first time around, it’s not too late to contribute to this worthwhile cause. Donations can still be made directly through the following special bank account:
