Ardnagrath NS wins Westmeath ‘Outdoor Classroom’ competition

Students from Ardnagrath National School, Athlone were delighted to hear they were the overall winners in Westmeath County Council’s ‘Outdoor Classroom’ competition.

The council’s environment section ran an art competition for primary schools in the county who are registered with the ‘Green Schools’ programme, to decide who would be the lucky recipients of an outdoor classroom. Jointly funded by Westmeath County Council and the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government under the Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership fund, the outdoor classroom will provide the perfect setting for children to learn about the environment.

There was a terrific response to the competition with an exceptionally high standard of entries. In recognition of the high standard and the amount of effort involved, each school which entered the competition will receive a ‘bio-diversity’ bird box and a certificate of achievement.

Students and staff of Ardnagrath School visited the council offices in Mullingar where they were presented with a certificate as a token of their prize by the cathaoirleach of the council Cllr Fintan Cooney
