A seminar addressing the psychological aspects of running a business in challenging times will be held in Ballybane Enterprise Centre on Monday next March 1 at 6.30pm.
Delivered by psychotherapist Richard Lowry, this two hour seminar hour is aimed at owner managers in the small/medium business sector, where there is a very changed focus in how businesses are being run and a different set of challenges as compared to the Celtic tiger years.
The presentation covers topics such as the necessary management skills to be developed and used for these times, the new decisions facing business owner/managers, and techniques to help manage increased stresses and pressures in business and everyday life.
The stresses of these economic times can be debilitating for business owners, explains Liam Bluett, manager of the Ballybane Enterprise Centre.
“Owning a small or large business at any time can cause a lot of stress and anxiety. In these difficult economic times, the continuing pressure of ensuring that a business remains viable can result in an increased work load and additional stress for many business people.
“Next Monday’s seminar will look at key skills to help the owners of small businesses manage the personal and psychological aspects of running a business in the recession.”
According to Richard Lowry, a former treasury manager in the banking sector, managing a business can be stressful, but the key is knowing how to manage your anxieties.
“A most important thing for any small business owner/manager to do is take stock of the situation in which they find themselves and plan accordingly,” said Mr Lowry who now runs a successful psychotherapy practice in Meath.
“The bridge between where they are and where they want to go can be extremely challenging. The most critical of these challenges is often to minimise stress levels, yet still stay on track to achieve key business goals,” concluded Mr Lowry
