Best ever RAG Week line-up revealed

Students prepare to ‘Raise And Give’ for charity

Following months of anticipation, the line-up for AIT’s RAG Week 2010 has been announced, and it is without a doubt the most impressive yet.

The Students’ Union has gone all out this year to attract top Irish and international acts to the AIT campus and the town, with British rapper Tinchy Stryder to play the week’s headline gig in Karma nightclub on Monday as part of his run of Irish dates. Tickets are €20 for students and €25 for general public.

The event-packed week runs from next Sunday February 21 to the following Thursday, and features a wealth of music, comedy, games, and charity events.

Highlights of the week include festival favourite Mundy who will kick off the week in style in Scribes on Sunday night; music from The Coronas and The Chapters on Tuesday; and comedian Jason Byrne live in the Douglas Hyde theatre on campus on Wednesday.

TG4’s ever-popular Daithí Ó Se is MC for the Blind Date night which takes place on Monday evening in Scribes, while Richie Kavanagh will also put in an appearance on Monday afternoon.

Karma nightclub will host a beach party on Wednesday night, and the official RAG Ball will round off the week on Thursday.

This year a number of non-alcohol-related activities have been planned, as the Students Union wishes to emphasise that the purpose of RAG Week is to raise money for charity while having a good time. Students are being reminded that RAG stands for Raise And Give, and will be encouraged to give their time and money towards a number of worthy local causes.

Last year AIT students raised €10,000 for various charities, and it is hoped this figure will be matched or exceeded this year.
