Athlone Agricultural Show launches invention competition

Athlone Agricultural Show has announced an invention competition aimed at young entrepreneurs, and in particular enterprising farmers. Budding inventors are encouraged to submit their idea for an invention by March and have three months thereafter to produce a prototype for display at the Athlone Agricultural show.

Results of the competition will be announced at the festival on June 27. The overall prize fund is valued at €3,500 and is sponsored by Westmeath County Enterprise; AIB, Athlone; O’Sullivan, Keegan Financial Management Consultants; and Rotary Table Athlone.

There are exciting opportunities available in this age of modern technology for new product development; be it in the field of smart technology, alternative energy, tourism, energy saving devices, new food products, as well as a whole range of other developments. This is an opportunity to consider the possibility of developing a new concept, which could result in the creation of industrial or agricultural-related jobs.

For the future most of the new job opportunities will emerge from home-developed ideas. There are numerous business and development authorities available that will provide support for the growth and development of these new business innovations. The committee hopes that this competition will help to promote and encourage new developments.

Further information on the competition is available from the general secretary, Athlone Agricultural Festival, Moydrum, Athlone on (090 ) 6475887.
