Local councillor Colm Arthur has expressed his concern over water shortages and burst pipes in Kilbeggan due to freezing temperatures over the last couple of weeks.
Cllr Arthur has indicated that he will be raising the issue at next week’s Kilbeggan area meeting. He is looking for Westmeath County Council to answer questions asked by residents of housing estates across the town over burst pipes and the turning off of water by the council.
“Many houses have frozen water pipes as a result of their not being laid to regulation depth during construction,” he said.
Cllr Arthur has asked the enforcement section of Westmeath Co Co to clarify their legislative role in this regard. He has also asked the council to clarify their responsibility with regard to estates already taken in charge and council estates.
Cllr Arthur is also looking for answers to questions over the water supply to Rochfortbridge and Tyrellspass.
