Mullingar bowling takes off

Mullingar’s latest entertainment venue, Rock ‘n’ Bowl and Jungle Joes, has hit the ground running after its first two weeks trading on the Lynn Road, behind O’Brien’s Renault garage.

The 10-pin bowling alley and kids’ play centre opened on schedule on December 10 and proprietor, JP O’Brien is “pretty confident” about his brave venture.

“Pretty good, actually,” was how he described the opening fortnight, “considering we didn’t advertise and it was mainly passing traffic and word of mouth”.

The 10-pin bowling costs €30 per lane per hour from 10am on Monday morning up to 4pm on Friday evening, and €35 after that.

There are 10 lanes with fully computerized scoring on large LCD screens.

Up to six people can play a lane at any one time, and there are no age restrictions as Rock ‘n’ Bowl has bowling balls of all sizes.

A league system is planned for early in the new year.

Jungle Joes play area costs €6.50 per child for 90 minutes of play off peak (10am Monday-4pm Friday ) and €8.50 at peak time.

Parents who bring the toddlers in on weekday mornings will get complimentary tea or coffee.

Birthday parties, bowling groups, corporate functions and school tours can hire out event time in any of the unit’s facilities. Details can be got from www.rocknbowl.ie or by calling (044 ) 9333300 to negotiate a rate.

The Rock ‘n’ Bowl Cafe is open every day from 11am to close. Other facilities at the venue include kids’ party rooms, battery-powered go-karts for the under-10s, American pool tables, and amusements.
