Ballinasloe groups to benefit from €64,500 funding

Six community groups in Ballinasloe are to benefit from some €64,554 in funding from the Dormant Accounts Fund.

The largest amount of funding, €23,747, has been allocated to Ballinasloe Social Services Limited to develop the carpark and play area, and for fixtures and fittings for the pre-school extension at the centre.

Co Galway Local Sports Partnership is to receive €16,500 to run specific projects with emphasis on ‘minority sports’, with the co-operation of RAPID Ballinasloe, while Garbally College is to benefit from €11,200 to run a nutrition and literacy programme for the school and operate a breakfast club.

A further €5,408 is to be awarded to Three Rivers Storytelling Festival, which brings a variety of storytellers to town for the annual storytelling festival.

Busy Little Bees Community Playschool/Crèche has been allocated €4,949 to purchase new furniture and educational equipment for the crèche. Finally, Ballinasloe Senior Citizens will be running decoupage night classes with the aid of funding of €2,750.

Galway East Fianna Fail Deputy Noel Treacy this week welcomed the news that the six Ballinasloe groups are to benefit from the funding.

“This Dormant Account Fund is focussed on groups in RAPID areas to maximise assistance towards those who need it most.

“Building strong communities benefits everyone and I am pleased that this Dormant Account Funding is being put to such good use. I would like to wish the groups involved continued success,” said Deputy Treacy.
