Cork troubadour Bill Coleman returns to Athlone

Musical ringmaster of gadgets, loops, laptops, and guitars, Bill Coleman returns to The Shack, Athlone this Saturday December 12 with support from local act The Driftwood Manor.

The hardworking Cork songsmith is performing in The Shack as part of a nationwide tour in support of his latest single ‘Welcome to the Breakdown’, which was also voted Song of the Week on the Ian Dempsey Breakfast show recently.

‘Welcome to the Breakdown’ is an upbeat tune driven by synths and beats that has a definite "glass half-full" outlook, as those aware of Coleman's previous work will be familiar with.

Coleman has been making a name for himself as an energetic live performer over the past few years, confounding expectations with a live show that channels influences ranging from Talking Heads to Neil Young. Pumped, joyous, upbeat songs sit next to moments of "you can hear a pin drop" silence. Audiences have been approving, which bodes well for the release of Coleman's second album in the new year.

The Driftwood Manor have been recording a number of projects over the past few months with a new EP recently released on Dublin's Slow Loris label and a second album set for release in the new year. This will be a pared-down performance from the band with only a couple of core members present. Admission is free on the night.
