Chairman of the Athlone Drug Awareness Group, Cllr Frankie Keena, said he was delighted with the success of the drug seizure by the Gardai in Athlone last weekend.
“This major haul of cocaine and cannabis has a street value of approximately €1.5 million. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the Gardai on their excellent work, as their ongoing surveillance has paid off. It is great to get this amount of drugs off the streets as the devastation and heartbreak that it can put on individuals and families is horrific,” he said.
“These drug dealers do not care about your sons or daughters, they are ruthless people only interested in making a quick buck..
“I encourage the public to continue to use the Dial To Stop Drug Dealing free phone number, 1800 220 220, to report any concerns that they may have in relation to drug activity, or to contact their local Garda Station directly.”
