“I don’t think there’s anyone who could not be numbed with sadness at the deaths in Mayo,” said Judge John Neilan, urging an Athlone man to slow down on the roads.
Frank Dempsey of 112 Bloomfield Drive, Athlone was charged with driving at 148km/hour in a 120km/hour zone on the M6 on March 5 at 7.47am, during a recent sitting of Mullingar District Court.
Mr Dempsey, who said he did not receive the fine and could give no explanation for his speed, was given the benefit of the Probation Act.
