Top golf course re-opens after stunning redesign

One of the West’s top 18-hole PGA Championship golf courses – with a state-of-the-art golf academy - is soon to re-open to the public after an expert redesign by legendary World Cup and Ryder Cup golfer Christy O’Connor Jnr.

The Galway Bay Golf Resort, on the stunning Renville Peninsula in Oranmore, is currently taking a limited number of annual memberships for 2010 along with golf and society bookings. A unique festival of golf is also planned to coincide with the full re-opening of the course next spring.

The Par 72 PGA Championship course – formerly the Galway Bay Golf and Country Club – is bordered on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean, making the course one of the most spectacular in the country. The redesigned Golf Resort now boasts exciting features to suit every golfer. Water hazards, concealed bunkers, and the highly-acclaimed putting surfaces combined with a truly spectacular backdrop, mean the course is unrivalled in the West of Ireland.

Special introductory rates are now available to ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy this world-class facility, when it re-opens to the public from April 2010. There are currently 100 memberships available for just €36.54 per week (€1,900 per annum ); and a society’s offer of €45 per player, plus second round free.

To celebrate the redevelopment of this stunning links course, a festival of golf will take place for the first 12 days of May, with competitions each day and a rate of just €25 per day for those who book online. There are also open weeks from June 14 to 20 and July 12 to 18 with the same online offer.

Golf Academy membership is also available for €299 for 2010, plus discounted green fees, where members can avail of practice facilities at the course.

“I have redesigned this Par 72 PGA Championship Golf Course using all the challenges of the natural line of the Galway coast and the limitations imposed by the Atlantic Ocean,” said Christy O’Connor Jnr. “The natural water hazard is the Atlantic Ocean. This stunning course is of championship standard, but in my opinion a fair test of golf. I wish to extend a warm welcome to all who play and enjoy the use of this special resort.”
