Fine Gael wants to meet local business leaders for its economic forum

Fine Gael’s leader Enda Kenny and his frontbench economic team are coming to Galway to outline their plans for job creation and hear the views of Galway business leaders on the economic crisis.

Dep Kenny will meet with Galway business leaders on Monday at 9.30am for the party’s economic forum in the Menlo Park Hotel. Also attending will be the party’s deputy leader and finance spokesman Richard Bruton, enterprise spokesman Leo Varadkar, communications spokesman Simon Coveney, and deputy finance spokesman Kieran O’Donnell.

The meeting will chaired by George Lee, who was recently appointed Chair of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party Business Forum.

FG hope the meeting will provide a forum for business leaders and representatives to offer their views and ideas on economic recovery. The series of meeting is being held under the banner of ‘Working Together’, signifying the need for politics and business, as well as other key groups, to pool ideas on dealing with the downturn.

Fine Gael councillor Brian Walsh is encouraging businesses to attend the meeting and meet Fine Gael’s economic team.

“The meetings are designed to hear the views and ideas of business people on what they need to protect existing jobs and create new ones,” he said. “It is critical that business and politics work together as this will ensure that any recovery plan devised to stimulate the economy will have a much greater chance of succeeding.”

Announcing this Business & Jobs Forum, Galway West TD Padraic McCormack, who will be in attendance, said the meeting “indicates the importance Fine Gael attach to the West of Ireland.” Senator Fidelma Healy Eames will also be in attendance.

This event will begin with tea/coffee at 9am with the forum running from 9.30am to 12.30pm with light refreshments served afterwards.
