Monksland broadband delay inexcusable - Kilduff

Roscommon councillor, Paddy Kilduff, has expressed concern at the delay in providing broadband facilities to the Monksland area.

"The ongoing issue of inadequate broadband facilities for the greater Monksland region has been brought to my attention recently by a number of frustrated residents. I have investigated the issue and discovered to my surprise that the new telecom exchange required to roll out the service has been completed for over six months,” he explained.

“The new exchange is located in a custom-built facility behind the Athlone Springs Hotel. All that is required to put the new exchange into service is to connect it to the existing exchange located close by in a small roadside telecom cabinet.

“With demand for the broadband service extremely high in the Monksland region and the vast bulk of the necessary works complete, I cannot understand the protracted delay completing the broadband project.

“A delay of this magnitude cannot be justified under these circumstances. I am calling on eircom to expedite the necessary works, connect the new exchange, and roll out the service to the residents as soon as reasonably practicable,” he concluded.
