Amnesty tour coming to Mullingar

Amnesty International's new Ambassador of conscience honoree, Peter Gabriel and former recipient U2's The Edge launched the organisation's Small Places Tour in London last week. The event, held at the Hard Rock Café, outlined a preliminary list of 500 Small Places concerts in 47 countries. Organisers expect the list to grow to 1,000 concerts.

The Small Places Tour is Amnesty International's most ambitious global music and human rights project since the Human Rights Now! Tour in 1988. The tour marks the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Inspired by Eleanor Roosevelt's call for 'concerted citizenaction' in her famous “small places” speech in 1958, musicians are being asked to raise their voices in song and action in support of Amnesty’s campaigning work on human rights.

Six concerts have already been announced for the Irish leg of the tour. The Small Places Tour will include a number of Irish stops including Danny Byrnes, Mullingar which will include performances from The Aftermath, Vesta Varro, Peter Doran, Pete Courtney, Dave Paytoon, and Immate.

The Small Places Tour is human rights conscious as well as environmentally friendly. Artists worldwide can raise funds and awareness by performing benefit concerts, offering premium-seating packages, or auctioning off meet and greets, and other unique fan experiences during their scheduled touring cycle.
