Wrestlemania is running wild in Athlone

The event of the year is promised at the Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone on Friday October 10, when the Superstars of Wrestling roll into Athlone on their American Invasion Tour.

The Dean Crowe will be transformed into an exciting fighting arena for the occasion as some of the best wrestlers from the USA, Mexico, Japan, and Europe line up to produce the thrills and the spills that we have come to expect from major league wrestling.

It will be the biggest wrestling event outside of Dublin and Belfast as the heroes and villains of the squared circle go one-on-one using a combination of strength, skill, and expertise, often defying gravity, to bring us wrestling with a capital E - that’s E for Entertainment.

Topping the bill will be the former WWE star Joe Legend. Joe made his WWE television debut in 2000, appearing in the ring against all the top stars of the day. He later moved to Europe to compete in the big German tournaments and also made regular trips to Japan. He returned to the USA in 2004 to compete for TNA, winning the NWA World Tag Team Championship with Kevin Northcutt.

In 2005 he was one of the trainers on ITV’s Celebrity Wrestling. Legend holds four different World Championship belts, and is the current holder of the GSW (Germany ) Heavyweight Championship, The IWA (Canada ) Intercontinental Championship, The IWF (Russia ) Championship, and the one he is most proud of - the Pan Pacific Heavyweight Championship which he won in Japan.

Flying in from Osaka, Japan will be Tagori - the masked sensation who is in the same mould as Rey Mysterio Jnr. This man will have you on the edge of your seats with his high-flying manoeuvres.

Also making an appearance on the night will be a new name on the scene - The Celtic Warrior. He is big, very big - and he is a born fighter. Although he is a relative newcomer to the sport, he intends to go right to the top and he doesn’t mind who he knocks aside or upsets on the way. He was recently offered a contract to be one of the gladiators on the new series of The Gladiators on Sky 1, but despite all the publicity the show would have generated, he didn't want to be known as a wrestler who became a Gladiator. He says he is a wrestler first and foremost and that's the way it's going to stay.

Hailing from Scotland, ‘Highlander’ Drew McDonald should cause a storm of controversy with his rule-breaking ways. Drew is part of the WWE’s development division and is always on the lookout for new talent for the world’s major wrestling company. He has just recovered from a torn bicep injury but assures us he is fighting fit and looking forward to causing mayhem in the ring.

And if all that wasn’t enough - at the end of the night all of the wrestlers will return to the ring for a Royal Rumble. It will be friend against friend and foe against foe as they battle it out to find a 'King of the Ring'. There are no falls or submissions in this match - the only way to be eliminated is to be thrown over the top rope onto the arena floor.

Negotiations are ongoing at present to bring some more top American stars to Athlone so watch this space!

It’s an event not to be missed. Bell time is 8pm and tickets are now on sale at just €18 and €15 from the theatre box office, telephone (090 ) 6492129, or online at www.deancrowetheatre.com
