Filmed cinema screening for schools at Roscommon Arts Centre

Filmed, a new initiative of Roscommon Arts Centre, presents an eclectic mix of films selected specifically for secondary school students (senior cycle and transition year ). In conjunction with the Irish Film Institute, the Arts Centre is offering this exciting and educational six-week film programme throughout November and December. Introducing Irish-made films, foreign language films, historical documentaries, and a presentation by the award-winning Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon, many of the selected films are accompanied by study guides.

The first film to be shown is Warchild, a German language film, which explores the connection between Germany and nearby Bosnia through the search of a resolute Bosnian woman for her daughter who was fostered during the war a decade earlier. The historical documentary In the Shadow of the Moon will be of particular interest to history students and their teachers. This highly acclaimed and intelligent documentary presents never seen before footage from the NASA archives.

Film producer Tommy Weir will be available for a question and answer session following the screening of the Irish-made coming of age tale 32A, and an interesting presentation by Cartoon Saloon will give a behind the scenes look into the world of animation with a sneak preview of their soon-to-be released feature The Secret of Kells. The final film of the six-week programme is the Irish language film, Kings, adapted from the stage play Kings of Kilburn High Road and starring Colm Meaney and Donal O’Kelly.
