Trad music classes with John Wynne and Fiona Doherty

As part of Roscommon Arts Centre’s Reel Thing programme of traditional Irish music and entertainment, the centre is offering a new opportunity for children and young people to learn to play the tin whistle or fiddle, under the guidance of well-known traditional musicians and teachers Fiona Doherty and John Wynne.

Fiona hails from County Sligo and is a very experienced and talented musician; she is also a full-time music teacher, teaching a range of instruments including fiddle, banjo, flute, and tin whistle. Fiona tutors and performs each summer at some of the best known summer schools, including the South Sligo Summer School, the Joe Mooney School, and Scoil Éigse - All Ireland Fleadh.

John Wynne is a well known and passionate Roscommon musician who has toured and recorded with Providence and recently Pride of the West with fiddler John McEvoy. John has taught individuals and groups for the last number of years and tutors annually at Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy and at the Joe Mooney Summer School, among others.

Classes take place on Wednesday afternoons at Roscommon Arts Centre, beginning September 24, for all capabilities from beginners to advanced. Spaces are limited so early booking is advised.
