The responsibilities of company directors and community safety are two of the themes which will be addressed at a forthcoming breakfast briefing organised by the Midlands Gateway Chamber.
The briefing, which takes place at the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone, on Friday October 3, is the first in a series organised in association with Athlone Chamber of Commerce.
The keynote speakers at the October event are solicitor Imelda Reynolds, partner in the Commercial Property Department of Beauchamp Solicitors, Dublin and Kathleen O’Toole, Chief Inspector of the Garda Inspectorate.
Ms Reynolds will speak on the topic of ‘Director Responsibilities and Corporate Law Enforcement’. Her address will outline the increasingly onerous obligations imposed on individuals who act as directors of companies and the broad range of responsibilities directors now undertake. It will also highlight the active corporate enforcement role pursued by the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement and highlight some recent legal cases in this area.
Kathleen O’Toole will be speaking on ‘Partnering on Community Safety’. She has extensive experience in this area, having spent more than 25 years in the public safety arena. Ms O’Toole took up her position as Chief Inspector of the Garda Inspectorate in July 2006 and prior to this was Boston Police Commissioner since February 2004. The Boston Police Department is the largest municipal police force in the New England region and the 14th largest in the US.
President of the Midlands Gateway Chamber, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, said that the inaugural breakfast briefing “presented two very different aspects of the internal-external dynamic experienced by organisations. As corporate citizens, we are faced with innumerable responsibilities – legal, ethical, business, and social. Imelda Reynolds and Kathleen O’Toole are both expert observers and seasoned practitioners and have much to offer Chamber members.”
