Westmeath’s Hannah Casey to have her story published in new Londis book

“I love the village I think it’s a fantastic place to live and from early September we’ll all have ears pricked up, listening for that tell tale shout: “The fair is coming!!” - Hannah Casey, aged 12, Westmeath.

Hannah Casey (12 ) from Westmeath has been chosen from over 3,000 entrants to have her story featured in the Londis Write up my Street book in aid of Barnardos.

Following a nationwide competition in April of this year, 30 young authors aged between five and 18 years have had their stories published in Write up my Street, a powerful and inspiring collection of short stories based around community life in Ireland today. Thirty stories were selected for publication in the Write up my Street book which goes on sale exclusively in Londis stores nationwide from September 17. Proceeds from the sale of the book will go to Barnardos Children’s Charity.

The creativity and depth of connection within these stories is inspiring. From the heartfelt realism of a community coming together to support a family during a difficult time, to the vivid portrayal of a make-believe dragon community, each story paints a picture of community life which is extremely strong, depicting communities which strengthen in the face of adversity and flourish in the collective achievements of their people. The book is a wonderful insight into the power of community though the eyes of Ireland’s young people. It is a unique celebration of why for each and every one of us there simply is ‘no community like my community’.
