The Wheel, the national support and representative body for community and voluntary organisations, will be hosting a special workshop in Athlone on Thursday September 17, to help local community and voluntary organisations through the recession.
Deirdre Garvey, chief executive of The Wheel, said that over 70 per cent of community and voluntary organisations have lost Government funding since the beginning of this year, and many now have to cut back on their services, or close down altogether. “Organisations (large and small ) have to review their financial strategies, operations and fundraising. With further funding cuts anticipated later this year, leaders and managers have to respond swiftly and decisively to secure the future of their organisations,” said Ms Garvey.
The half-day workshop, which will take place at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, comprises a finance and strategy 'workout session' for CEOs, managers, and those in leadership positions in organisations to help assess their own organisations' financial and general organisational health.
Participants will also be equipped with a Financial Survival Toolkit, and recommended options, techniques and tools to minimise or avoid the effects of a decline in public, private or voluntary financial support.
The workshop will be facilitated by Deirdre Garvey, CEO of The Wheel and Joe McKenna, who has over 20 years’ experience in managing and advising voluntary organisations. His company Venture Advancement works with community and voluntary groups to diversify income, strengthen identity and face the strategic funding challenges that lie ahead.
