The Midland Regional Drugs Task Force is inviting applications for funding under the 2009 Capital Premises Fund, after a sum of €25,000 was made available to the local body.
The purpose of the funding, announced this week by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, is to assist once off small scale projects in the Midlands area, where voluntary and community based drugs services are being delivered.
The focus is on necessary small refurbishment works and the purchase of essential equipment, which have a significant benefit and impact at community level, or are essential to comply with health and safety regulations.
The Midland Regional Drugs Task Force covers the areas of Westmeath, Offaly, Longford, and Laois.
The local body is among 14 local and 10 regional drugs task forces nationwide to benefit from total funding of €600,000 announced by Minister of State with responsibility for the National Drugs Strategy, John Curran, earlier this week. A funding maximum of €25,000 is available per Task Force and all projects must be in a position to draw down the funding before the end of 2009.
“The Government views community-based projects as central to tackling drugs misuse and to the implementation of the National Drugs Strategy. We are keen that such projects have appropriate facilities in which to provide their essential services,” said Minister Curran.
“I am very aware that these grants will make a difference to the clients of these services and to their families.”
