Jury dismissed in Roscommon rape case

The jury in the trial of a County Roscommon resident has been discharged at the Central Criminal Court because the judge was not available to take up the case.

The man had pleaded not guilty to 14 charges of rape and 41 charges of sexual assault on a now 17-year-old girl in a town in county Roscommon along with 19 charges of sexual assault on the same girl in a county Galway town on dates between April 1, 2002 and September 23, 2006.

Mr Justice Barry White told the jury of seven men and five women that they had been sworn in on the basis that a trial he is currently presiding over would be at an end, but said it had not yet concluded. He adjourned the case to next Monday for trial.
