Midlands group takes to the skies for charity

A group of over 30 brave people from the Midlands are preparing to take part in a group skydive to raise funds for people with acquired brain injury (ABI ). The skydive will take place in Clonbollogue, Co Offaly on Sunday August 23 and all monies raised will go to Acquired Brain Injury Ireland (ABI Ireland ) services in the Midlands.

ABI Ireland provides support and services for people with acquired brain injury throughout Ireland. Rehabilitation Assistant with ABI Ireland Geraldine Kiveney who is based in ABI Ireland Community Rehabilitation Service in Tullamore, is co-ordinating the group of sky divers which consists of people that are involved with and support clients of ABI Ireland.

Barbara O’Connell, CEO of Acquired Brain Injury Ireland said, “I would like to thank everyone for their efforts in organising this skydive and raising money for people with acquired brain injury in Ireland.  Approximately 10,000 people in Ireland are affected by acquired brain injury each year and our services provide valuable community rehabilitation outreach in the Midlands and in several locations around the country. I wish Geraldine and the group every success on their skydive.”

The fundraising drive began with a barbeque in Ronnie Curley’s pub in Portumna on Sunday July 12. Members of the group will also hold a fancy dress night in the Bloomfield Hotel, Mullingar on August 7 and a sponsored bag pack in Tesco, Golden Island, Athlone on August 22. The public are urged to support these events or to look out for further fundraising initiatives in their local areas.
