Phoenix Festival hits Tullamore this weekend

Check out the Phoenix Festival in Tullamore from today, Friday July 17 to Sunday July 19.

There is an extensive family friendly programme all day Sunday and all events are free unless otherwise stated.

Programme includes street spectacle, extreme, music, art, cultural and heritage events.

 

Highlights include the following:

- Parade with four marching bands and a variety of colourful performers. The Red Deer Royals from Alberta, Canada with 140 members in their troupe will take part in the parade and also perform a routine in the Town Park before the hot air balloon launch – Sunday July 19.

- NoFixed Abode Visual Art Trail in vacant and used retail units – all week.

- Ireland’s Largest Skate board competition – Saturday July 18.

- Hot Air Balloon Night Glow and Fire Show – Saturday night.

- Free open air concerts including John Spillane (Sunday ), Túcan (Saturday ), and other up and coming artists and a Session Mór (Friday ) as Tullamore warms up for the Fleadh Cheoil.

- Live Bluegrass and Roots music in over 20 venues – with live music from Niall Toner Band, Tennessee Hennessees, Prison Love, Lee Valley String Band, Two Time Polka, and many others.

- Street performers, face painters and children’s storytelling.

- Fun rowing regatta (Saturday ) and barge trips on the Grand Canal (Saturday and Sunday ).

- Tag Rugby Blitz –Saturday July 18.

- Indoor market.

- MX5 and Harley Davidson demo (Sunday ).

- Graffitti demonstration, drum circle and salsa dancing

- Juggling convention.

- Live concerts from Colm Wilkinson (€35 ) and Eric Bogle (€20 ).

- Street Busking Festival with musicians and street performers - €1,000 prize (Sunday ).

- Fireworks spectacular (Sunday ).
