Midlands Simon Community are asking for people to show their solidarity for those experiencing homelessness in Westmeath by supporting their team for this year’s Lifestyle Sports adidas Dublin Marathon, to take place on Monday October 26.
Leading the team for Midlands Simon are Kevin McGeeney and Luke O’Connor. Kevin, who is also team leader for the Midlands Simon Regional Settlement Service, says, “Life often presents people with challenges and difficulties that they did not expect, which can be extremely difficult to overcome. We are using this year’s event to highlight the fact that Midlands Simon Community is here to face these challenges with all those who need our help, and that by working together, for as long as it takes, we can overcome these challenges, and continue to provide all the supports necessary to enable people to move out of homelessness and into a permanent home”.
It is also an opportunity for Midlands Simon Community to raise some desperately needed funds. “As a voluntary organisation we are dependent on the goodwill and support of the wider community to fund our work. Unfortunately, given the extremely difficult times we are all now experiencing, that need is greater than ever, but we are confident that with the support of all our volunteers, and those like Kevin and Luke and the rest of Team Midlands Simon, and their simply fantastic efforts, we will be in a position to continue to provide vital services and a voice to those on the margins of our society,” said Tony O’Riordan, CEO Midlands Simon.
