The annual Darren Wallace/Padraic Sheriff Memorial Cups will take place on Monday August 3 this year. Now in it’s 14th year, the memorial cups have proved a fitting tribute to two of Assumption Road’s most fondly remembered natives.
Darren Wallace (17 ) ad Padraic Sheriff (35 ) were involved in a fatal road crash on the main Dublin Road, just outside Tyrellspass, in 1990. This year’s memorial cup tournament will take palce in the Community Centre pitch, Tormey Villas, Athlone on Monday August 3. Five-a-side competitions will be run, and set to attract hundreds of young footballers. Entry fee for the tournament is €60.
