Local TD Mary O’Rourke was on hand yesterday evening to officially open the premier of Ken Wardrop’s debut feature film, His and Hers, as it screened for cast and crew in the Tullamore Omniplex.
Shot entirely in the hallways, living rooms, and kitchens of the Irish Midlands, His and Hers is a beautifully observed documentary illustrating a universal love story.
The film explores woman's relationship with man by visiting moments from the lives of 70 female characters from all over the Midlands, from Tullamore, Mullingar, Athlone, Longford, Portlaoise, and Cavan, to mention but a few.
The film’s director Ken Wardrop, a Portarlington native, has been described as one of Ireland's freshest creative talents, who has been the brains behind several short cinematic works. With a strong emphasis on the aesthetic and the delicacy of humanity, Ken's art has garnered much international attention, with screenings at prestigious festivals including Sundance, Locarno, Cannes, and Oberhausen.
Ken’s films have received over 30 international awards including a European Film Academy Award for the short film Undressing My Mother in 2005. His and Hers is Ken's debut feature film, and has recently been selected by The Director’s Finder’s Series to be showcased at this year’s Director’s Guild of America Theatre on Sunset Boulevard in LA this August.
His and Hers is produced by Andrew Freedman and funded by The Irish Film Board, under their micro budget scheme. The Irish premier will take place at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.
