Streamstown and Moate are to receive essential Town and Village Renewal Schemes funding, local Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Deputy Peter Burke, confirmed this week.
“Over €500,000 has been allocated to three towns in Westmeath under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
“Streamstown, the area adjacent to Jack’s Stop Coffee Shop, will see the addition of adult gym equipment to enhance the amenity with a grant of €214,000, while Moate will receive €180,000 towards the rejuvenation of the streetscape with seating, enhanced shopfronts, connections to amenities and an improvement in the aesthetics of the town,” Deputy Burke said.
Local Fine Gael councillor Tom Farrell lauded the respective voluntary committees who earnestly prepare their grant applications to allow such essential funding to be realised.
“This funding is a welcome addition to the towns and further enhancement of good work already started.
“There are more people living in rural Ireland than ever before. There are more people working in rural Ireland than ever before and there is more investment going into rural Ireland than ever before and the facts back this up. Since 2016, over €176 million has been approved for more than 1,700 projects across the country.
“These projects are all about making our rural towns and villages great places to live, work and raise a family. I want to thank the local communities who brought forward these proposals and I look forward to seeing work commence on many of these exciting projects in the near future,” Cllr Farrell stated.
A third County Westmeath village, Rathwire, will receive €112,000 towards the improvement of streetscape, high quality paving areas, seating and bike stands.
