Shane Lynam (Moate LEA ) and Catrina O’Donohoe (Athlone LEA ), will contest the local elections on Friday, June 7, for the Irish Freedom party.
A native of Moate, Shane has strong family connections to the town. His great grandfather, William ‘Syl’ Lynam, was a blacksmith with a forge in Newtown and his grandfather Ned lived on the Dublin Road. Shane grew up in Moate, attending both primary and secondary school in the town.
Meanwhile, Catrina has family connections on the Donohoe side, in both Baylin and Tubberclair. Her grandmother Evelyn was a teacher in Baylin National School. Her father, Michael, was a transport officer with the UN and lived in Coosan.
Catrina and Shane were amongst the founding members of the Westmeath Cumann which formed in September of 2022.
“A feeling of disconnect between local communities and the main government parties led to the decision to get involved in politics,” Shane stated this week.
“We don’t see ourselves as politicians, neither of us have any experience with politics but we are hard workers and are willing to put in the time It requires to ensure communities are represented fairly,” Catrina commented.
Both candidates have been warmly received during early stages of canvassing and are feeling very positive about success.
They can be contacted on the campaign phone number 087 4902077 and a facebook page has been established so voting constituents can follow the campaign. You can find it by searching for “Irish Freedom Party Westmeath”.
