Local councillor, Aengus O’Rourke, has this week welcomed confirmation from the Office of Public Works (OPW ) that they will fully repair the boundary wall at Canal Walk following the conclusion of flood defence cell work at the location.

“The residents of Canal Walk have suffered a lot since 2009. Firstly, they had to endure the major flooding of 2009/2010, then there was further flooding in 2015.

“Since 2018, they have also endured a lot of upheaval at a local level due to the construction work related to the flood defence cell in this area. Thankfully, these works are now nearing completion.

“However, the final piece of the flood relief works is the installation of a new water pump and equipment directly across from the estate. In order to install this major piece of plant equipment it will be necessary to take down sections of the boundary wall along the front of the Canal Walk estate.

“I have been meeting with and liaising with the residents now for some time about this matter and I am pleased to confirm that once the works are complete the OPW will fully repair the wall and clean and paint the entirety of the boundary wall.

“This work will be undertaken during the summer months and I will keep pressure on the OPW to have this work carried out as soon as possible, ensuring the residents are kept updated as works progress,” Cllr O’Rourke concluded.
