Alcohol-free youth disco for summer

A monster summer break up youth disco is to be held at Athlone Rugby Club this Friday June 26, in conjunction with Athlone Gardai and the Athlone Drug Awareness Group.

The success of these discos over the last two years has been phenomenal, with large numbers attending each night. The atmosphere, lighting, and music from DJ Paul Harte all blend together to generate a really good night’s entertainment.

The main purpose of the discos is to provide a safe environment where young teenagers, between the ages of 14 and 17, can socialise and have some fun, away from the influence of alcohol.

The key to the success of these events is the supervision provided on the night by members of the Athlone Rugby Club, Athlone Gardai, and the Athlone Drug Awareness Group. Anyone with alcohol on them will not gain admittance, and a proper code of behaviour is expected during the disco.

Thanks to Seamus and Dympna Hayes, tickets for the disco are available in Music World, Golden Island. As only a limited number can attend, people are advised to purchase their tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Parents are requested to collect their teenagers at midnight to make sure that they get home safely. The help and cooperation of everyone will make these discos enjoyable, safe, and exciting for our youth.

There is always room for more manpower during the discos, so if there are any parents who would like to help out they are welcome to come along on the night, or they can contact either of the following in advance: Barry Reid, Athlone Rugby Club at (086 ) 8710735 or Cllr Frankie Keena, Athlone Drug Awareness Group at (085 ) 7474074.

The summer break up youth disco takes place in Athlone Rugby Club on Friday June 26 from 9pm to midnight.
