Local girl raising funds for EIL

On Friday July 3, Athlone Leisure World will host a bowling night in aid of EIL (Educational and Intercultural Learning ). EIL is a non-profit intercultural organisation, which provides the opportunity for Irish volunteers to work alongside local people in the areas of conservation, education, welfare, community development, and health.

Local girl Ruth Daly will be volunteering in South Africa, working with children who are HIV positive.

Ruth has organised various fundraising events in the town and the bowling night on July 3 will be her final event to raise funds and awareness for this worthy cause. Ruth explained “that the purpose of these fundraising events is that each volunteer is required to raise money for the programme fee. This money will be used by each local project that the volunteer is placed with.”

She will pay the cost of her flight herself and any additional money raised will go towards the project. This is a cause Ruth is very passionate about and she believes that a volunteer programme like this can really make a difference in the lives of people that are living in poverty in townships in South Africa.

Ruth is delighted with the response she has received from individuals and businesses in Athlone. She would like to thank Reeves Art Studio, The Shamrock Lodge Hotel, and all individuals and friends that have given their time and talents to this worthy cause. She is asking people to support the fundraising night. It promises to be great fun, while raising money for a great cause. The bowling will kick off at 8pm.

Ruth will be leaving on July 18 and will remain in South Africa for nine weeks. If you would like to contribute to this worthy cause or find out more information about this fundraising event, please contact Ruth on (085 ) 1604402.
