Young people aspiring for a memorable summer in the USA should apply for USIT’s 2024 Camp USA Programme by midnight on Monday, April 15, to secure their ideal camp placement in time.
The Camp USA programme is emerging as a cost-effective method for those under 30 to experience a summer in the USA, priced at just €299 plus visa and flight costs. It stands out as one of the most economical choices for young people aiming to work and travel in America. Participants, as camp counsellors, are guaranteed a minimum salary of USD$2,000 for the summer, with food and accommodation provided for the nine-week duration. This arrangement allows the majority of their earnings to be saved for travel and enjoyment with new friends made at camp.
The programme offers a significant opportunity to impact campers’ lives positively and serves as an introduction to international work experience and travel. USIT ensures participants are matched with camps that cater to their interests in sports, arts, or crafts, often securing specialist positions in areas such as soccer, tennis, rugby, swimming, gymnastics, watersports, horse riding, theatre, music, and art.
Counsellors receive comprehensive support from camp staff, acquiring valuable CV and career skills that are highly regarded by future employers. The camp environment also fosters long-lasting friendships with fellow international counsellors from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and elsewhere.
The programme encourages repeat participation, with many counsellors returning for subsequent summers.
Kiera Grice, a 2023 participant preparing for her 2024 return, praises the programme.
“Being a summer camp counsellor is more than just a job; it’s a life-changing experience that affects both your own life and the lives of the campers. Amazing friendships were made, memories were made, and personal growth was attained over those warm days. It’s a job that develops patience, leadership, and flexibility in you while allowing you to inspire young people’s interest and joy. I recommend the program if you’re looking for an adventure combining enjoyment and personal growth. It’s an adventure of a lifetime,” Keira enthused.
USIT offers an accessible payment plan, requiring a minimal €49 deposit initially. The programme includes sponsorship for working in the USA, a summer camp job, and three months of medical cover, among other benefits. While additional costs such as the $185 US Embassy interview fee and local GP fees are not included, applicants can avail of a free police check at local Garda stations.
With the application deadline on Monday, April 15, USIT issues its final call for a once-in-a-lifetime summer in the USA. Read more about the USIT Camp USA Programme here, as well as by visiting www.usit.ie and following @usittravel on social media.
