Athlone Comhaltas welcome traditional music session proves a great success

Bhí seisiún mór ceoil ag Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Átha Luain chun tús iontach a chur le Seachtain na Gaeilge.

Tháing ceoltóirí idir óg agus sean, ó chian agus ó chóngar, chuig Árás Chiarán i gCearnóg Naomh Muire, Áth Luain ar an Domhach seo chaite. Bhí tráthnóna den scoth ag chuile duine ag seinm ceoil agus ag éisteacht le hamhráin gaelach.

To mark Seachtain na Gaeilge, Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann Croabh Átha Luain hosted their first event of the year - a welcome sessiún at the Knights of St Columbanus Hall, St Mary’s Place, Athlone.

There was a great turnout of musicians and singers of all ages, including local musicians and those from further afield. It was a delight to listen to such a variety of instruments from the uilleann pipes to the harp, concertina, fiddle, whistle and more.

Some tunes from the Foinn Seisiún book one were played, interspersed with a lovely medley of songs. The large turnout shows that there is a great appetite for traditional music and culture in the town. Refreshments were served and it was a great social event for both musicians and music fans.

The committee of Comhaltas Áth Luain were delighted with how the session went and are hoping to make it a monthly event. They would also like to thank the Knights of St Columbanus for the use of their lovely Hall.

The branch is now taking membership and will be accepting entries for the Westmeath Fleadh, the closing date for which is April 5. Entries are now closed for the Roscommon Fleadh. The branch is aligned to the Roscommon county board of CCÉ.
